Jean Gallagher Heil has served as a faculty member and the Department Chair of the Early Childhood Education Department at Cabrillo College for over 20 years. Prior to teaching at Cabrillo College, Jean taught at San Jose State University for both the Child & Adolescent Development Department and Elementary Education. She has her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbia University, Teachers College.

Jean taught children for many years, ranging in age from infants through 3rd grade with most of her teaching being with toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners. She has taught in various settings, including: elementary schools, state funded preschools, the Bing School at Stanford University, the San Jose State University Lab School Toddler classroom, and for over eighteen years, she supervised Student Teachers and Interns at the Cabrillo College Children's Center & Lab School.

Jean is the Coordinator of the California Early Childhood Mentor Program for Cabrillo College. This is a statewide program that supports early childhood education students to complete their student teaching practicum at local Mentor sites. This program also provides mentorship for new Directors by connecting them with a Mentor Director.

Jean is also a consultant who works closely with families as well as child care programs, teaching skills to support positive interactions with children and ways to foster strong connections with children.
